The cut stone buildings of the Old Manor were originally erected during the 18th century, and today are trimmed in
the soft pink shade of the Conch. The Estate is dominated by a mesmerizing view of Mt. Nevis, as commanding as it is gracious, and reflected in the Inn's pool. Old Manor's accommodations of rooms and suites
are within the old Plantation buildings, such as the Overseer's House, rather than newly built cottages, and as such are appointed in the traditional Caribbean style. The Cooperage Restaurant
at Old Manor, with it's panoramic views of neighboring, is well known for its a la carte cuisine and a regular West Indian buffet accompanied by Steel Band music. A complimentary shuttle brings guests to the Beachcomber Bar & Grill, the Inn's popular eatery on Pinney's beach, where locals, guests alike meet to watch the sunsets.
There are a few of reasons why I enjoy Old Manor so much. The first reason is that one of my dear friends, Jacintha, works here. I have known Jacintha since my first visit to
Nevis and always enjoy a good chat with her. The second reason, is that while I love seafood, I was born in the Midwest of the United States, and hence on occasion LOVE a LARGE hunk of meat. Once a week, I
think it is still Wednesday nights, they have a surf or turf night. You get to choose between a huge Lobster or a steak grilled to perfection with a baked potato. After a few weeks in Nevis you can't believe
how good this tastes. The really do a nice job with this dinner, and the place is usually full so call ahead. The third reason I love this place is the live entertainment that they occasionally have, and the
unbelievable views of Montserrat and Antigua. Sometimes at night, if you're lucky, you can watch two cruise ships pass each other in the night. It really is beautiful, and if this doesn't make you feel
romantic, then you might as well curl up and die. My only complaint, yeah you guessed it, too far from town and the water. However if you enjoy peace and quiet you will surely enjoy a stay at the Old Manor
Estate. |
