Sorry about the quality of this photo, I used a long telephoto lens, it was hazy, and this was taken before I had a digital camera....sooooo I then had to scan the photo. At any rate, the little island on the left is Redonda, the island is uninhabited but has plenty of goats and sheep. The large island in the background is Montserrat which is DEFINITELY an active volcano. In the 1990's it killed over 30 people in a Pyroclastic Flow.
The volcano has been somewhat quiet over the years, and I have flown over and stayed the nigh there. Though I did feel a few earthquakes while there. Incidentally I have also
felt few on Nevis over the years. When Montserrat does let off steam and ash you will definitely see the ash all over Nevis. I once had a flight canceled to Nevis from San Juan due to Montserrat.
I must say, it is still a beautiful island with friendly people. |
