The Gallipot is one of the newer restaurants to open in Nevis, and has since become one of the most popular places to
dine in Nevis. While I may have a slightly bias opinion of Gallipot, as it is owned and run by my dear friends Julian and Tracy Rigby, I can honestly say it is has become my favorite place to eat. I ate
there three times in two weeks the last time I was there! For people who know me, it is unheard of me going to the same place so many times, normally I like to keep moving around. The
husband and wife team of Julian and Tracy really compliment each other. Tracy who used to work as an airline hostess has years of experience in serving people, and making them feel comfortable, and Julian is a
master in the kitchen or on the grill. Yes Tracy, I know you do a great job in the kitchen too, but I like having you outside so I can annoy you ;) I knew even before I visited Gallipot
for the first time that the food would be good, as I had the good fortune in previous years to be invited to Julian and Tracy's house for dinner several times. I also knew that the seafood would be as fresh as it
could possibly be. Why you ask would the seafood be sooooo fresh? Well, you see, Julian and Tracy also used to own the deep sea fishing charter company in Nevis, Nevis Water Sports, and still have excellent
connections for obtaining only the freshest fish. In fact the first dinner I had at Gallipot was Grilled Wahoo. The reason I chose this was that I saw Julian bring in the fish just a few hours earlier!
Yep, it was fresh alright. What about the prices....come on you are talking to the original cheapskate here....it was so inexpensive that I tried to talk Tracy into raising her prices for fear
they would go out of business. My Grilled Wahoo dinner consisted of the following: At least an 8 to 10 oz. portion of Wahoo, rice and peas, carrot cole slaw, tossed green salad, sliced tomatoes, and some of the
best chips (fries) I have ever had. I knew the chips would be good as Julian is English, nobody makes chips better than the Brits. All of this served and presented beautifully for....get this....hold
on....US $ 11.00 It really was great! Not forgetting the bar....who me? The bar is octagonal shaped and overlooks the sea and St. Kitts. The seats are comfortable and the
breezes are a delight. I spent many a hour there watching the boats, birds, clouds, etc., while knocking back more than my fair share of Heineken. The prices on drinks are just as kind to your wallet as the
food is too. There normally is music playing in the background and several people to start up a conversation with too. All in all, a fun place to kick back and relax. |
